Plucky girls in an unlucky world

Here's an online blast from the past that I stumbled across recently: a collection of covers from the Bunty Picture Library and Judy Picture Library.

Bunty and Judy were girlie comic-books I used to read in my callow youth, and the Picture Libraries were pocket-sized feature-length editions of the typical Bunty fare - stirring tales of plucky girls who solved mysteries, were kind to animals, found dolls with deadly secrets, explored houses of horror and schemed to overthrow unfair teachers, all that sort of thing. They weren't exactly great literature, it's true, but I remember them most fondly. Although the actual stories haven't made it to the web (yet), it's still worth looking at the covers, because the titles and artwork simply SING of the 1960s and 70s.

Edited to say: I've removed my joking critique now. Apologies to Doeth who did the scans, and to whose site I hotlinked, which was very bad practice of me. No criticism of these books was intended: I love them, as I did repeatedly point out. But the pictures are not mine, and I don't want to hurt any feelings, so... all gone now. Sorry. But you can find the rest of the icon versions over here.
