The One-Question Quiz: at last, an answer!

Did you manage to identify yesterday's mystery picture, the one that looked like a giant hand tickling a psychotic snowman's armpit?

As many of you determined, the correct answer was suggestion number 1. It is indeed a serious political message about the benefits of socialism, or at least a little bit of one. The whole thing looks like this:

It's an Agitprop poster from the Soviet Union in the 1920s, by Vladimir Mayakovsky. Wikimedia Commons explains what the text actually means, but I shall paraphrase: basically, the cute and fuzzy white monster represents Cold, and the pointy finger is the power of the glorious Workers, telling it to go away. The pointy finger goes on to tell Hunger to go away, and then urges everyone to eat tacos and drink Coca Cola... well, maybe not, but that's what it looks like to me.

Anyway, I am very fond of the little Cold monster, and would offer to take him home and let him live in my freezer, but I fear he might munch all my pasta sauce portions while I'm at work. Perhaps someone could find him a job on a more modern poster, advertising double-glazing or insulation, maybe? He could manage that, I'm sure. He looks like a pro...
