Nature and artifice

Scandal in the animal kingdom today, because it turns out that the latest winner of the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year award was a fake: the wolf is actually an experienced model. I suppose the game was up when the wolf was spotted falling out of Bungalow 8 with Kate Moss and Pixie Geldof one too many times. These celebs never learn, do they?

Of course, in retrospect it's pretty obvious, because if you look closely, there are subtle clues that give away the truth:

As every fashionista knows, real wolves prefer Marc Jacobs

Anyway, the whole sorry tale inspired me to gaze upon some of the other impressive shots in the same competition, and speculate wildly upon the sneaky and suspicious means that could potentially have been used to achieve them.

Step closer, viewers, and and witness what happens when NATURE SELLS OUT:

Nature's weapon in the fight against Cheryl Cole

Auditions for Alice in Wonderland were fiercely competitive

And I only wash my antennae in Evian...

It's a European Community conspiracy!

If, however, you prefer your nature unadulterated, you can always take a look at the real gallery of winning images (fluff-centric as I am, I think this one's my favourite).
