On your recent internet travels, you may well have stumbled across a few thousand ads for something called Evony. Contrary to appearances, this is not a tacky nightclub in Essex, but actually some sort of online world-building game thingy. Nonetheless, it is mainly notorious for its delirious stream of increasingly ridiculous advertising, promising scantily clad thrills that the game itself apparently fails to deliver.

I began to wonder whether a similarly brazen approach could be used to sex up even the most manipulative and tedious of galactic gameplaying scenarios, and this is what I came up with.

Join an ancient civilization. Sit around for millennia pretending to be busy. Hope desperately that something exciting will happen at some point. Who could resist? Sign up today!

It's GALLIFREY the Game! Play me, Time Lord...Collapse )

However, once the shiny appeal of novelty goes BOOM, I imagine the ads will become increasingly unsophisticated until they end up more like this:

Come on ladies, put your hot clicks right here...Collapse )

Hey, I'd buy that for a space-dollar...
