Junior Reporter

Just sitting watching powers of the brain

My relationship with blockbuster movie franchises tends to be rather fraught and difficult, but I've always had a soft spot for the X-Men movies. Perhaps it's because the X-Men were, believe it or not, my first ever internet fandom.* Perhaps it's my mid-eighties memories of finding the occasional Chris Claremont-era issue stuffed amid the wilfully random selection of Marvel comics that our local newsagent bothered to stock. Or maybe it's the men-in-leather-trousers factor. Given that I even enjoyed the Wolverine movie (well, in parts), I suspect the latter may possibly be a factor.

Whatever the reason, the advent of X-Men: First Class was enough to get me scuttling to a local cinema, if only to see whether the "much better than the last ones" hype was justified.

Get on with the live slash show, lads. The lady's waiting.

"Are you going to call reception to say this room's got an insect problem, or shall I?"

So what did I think? Well, Collapse )
